Writer’s Guide
THE FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT STEP IN getting published in the Pelican Post is a matter of style. If you are going to send a query for an article please include a sample of your writing, either published or unpublished, so we can establish the compatibility of your style with that of our publication. Pieces submitted for consideration should be light, flowing, informative and humorous if appropriate. We are primarily looking for researched stories on the area’s history, culture, people and environment ranging in length from 600 to 2000 words. Some type of illustration in the form of photographs or drawings should accompany the article. Photos should be supplied in digital format if possible. Color prints are accepted but may not be returned. Pen and ink type drawings make the best artistic illustrations. As with everything, nothing is cast in stone. If you have a story or idea that you think we might be interested in send it in and we will consider it even if it doesn’t conform to the rules. If we like it we will work out the details.
